I awoke this morning, not in my bed but standing on a bridge
overlooking the crystal sea.
I wondered how I had got there,
and then realized that I had been walking in a daze through the smog ridden streets,
strewn with human refuse,
waiting for the grumbling gnawing noisy clang of the garbage truck to come and take it away
until the next week when it would happen all over again.
I was shutting out the problems of a man made society,
unfortunate as it seemed, had become a necessity of living today in a city.
As I stood on the bridge, my mind wandered back
to the time when I was a child; not always simple or joyous,
but an intriguing world of discovery.
Building a tree house, watching the ants walking their trails, never stopping for a rest.
It always amazed me how ants could carry ten times their own weight.
Then there was my mothers rose garden; oh how beautiful.
Watching a rose bloom day after day,
while each petal unfolded to reveal the beauty within,
and the glorious scent of some of them filled my soul with an unspeakable joy.
The beauty all around was there to be taken in.
I often wondered how all these things came to be.
Now as time has gone by and these memories have faded,
there is the struggle to survive
in a world of brutality and selfishness.
Not so simple anymore
To find real happiness is a real challenge to the soul.
Not to mention keeping it
I must consider myself one of the lucky ones now
I see the beauty in the things of nature around me.
Have you ever wondered why I go to the ocean all the time?
I go there to regain the peace and serenty of my soul
I was standing on a bridge at night
that linked the mainland with a prison
Below tha bridge were rocks being bashed by the waves
I know how wild the ocean can be
and oh how I love to experience it's power
But this power brought peace
Peace of mind, freedom of the spirit
freedom of my soul
